How to size your Apple Solo or Braided Loop band using your Sport Band

September 26, 2020 Ian Blackburn

The Solo Loop and Braided Loop bands look really nice, but you have to size them accurately to get a comfortable fit.

Apple offers a printout guide but many people seem to be struggling with it. I manically tried to print it out and use it before ordering my new Series 6 watch only to realise that the actual Solo Loop I wanted (the product(RED) one) was not actually available in the UK yet, and as it turns out I think I would have ordered a size 7 when I really need a size 5!

Example:

I wear my S/M band on my 44mm watch on hole 3, which makes me a size 5 for a Solo or Braided Loop

John Gruber posted a nice article with an easy approach for selecting your correct size based on the way you wear a current Sport Band - this makes a ton of sense to me if you have a Sport Band available that is.

But I wanted to make it a little bit simpler so I have created the calculator below. Simply select the watch size, band size, and the current hole you use for the Sport Band and it will tell you which Solo Loop or Braided Loop size to get, based on John Gruber’s calculations.
